Finding Your Way Back into Fellowship with God

The Question:

Do you know for certain that Jesus Christ is your Savior and Lord? If you are a Christian but have been living a defeated Christian life, here are some facts that can help restore fellowship with the Lord Jesus.

Fact One:

Sin can separate the Christian from fellowship with God and from the joy of walking daily with Christ.

Psalm 66:18

If I regard iniquity in my heart, Jehovah will not hear

Proverbs 28:9

He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is a hateful thing.

Fact Two:

Sin is a hindrance to spiritual growth in the life of a Christian.

I Corinthians 3:1-3

And I, brothers, could not speak to you as to spiritual ones, but as to fleshly, as to babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk and not with solid food, for you were not yet able to bear it; nor are you able even now. For you are yet carnal. For in that there is among you envyings and strife and divisions, are you not carnal, and do you not walk according to men?

Fact Three:

God has provided a way to experience the abundant Christian life daily.

Galatians 2:20

(Christ lives His life in us.) – I have been crucified with Christ, and I live; yet no longer I, but Christ lives in me. And that life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith toward the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself on my behalf.

John 15:5

(We must abide in Christ.) – I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Galatians 5:22, 23

(Abiding in Christ produces Christ likeness.) – But the fruit of the Spirit is: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Fact Four:

We must confess any known sin in our lives in order to restore fellowship with the Lord Jesus.

I John 2:1

(Christ is our Advocate.) – My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

I John 1:9

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

I John 1:7

But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Fact Five:

We can maintain consistent fellowship with the Lord Jesus by daily presenting our lives to Him.

Romans 12:1-2

(We must present every area of our lives to Christ.) – I beseech you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, in order to prove by you what is that good and pleasing and perfect will of God.

Ephesians 4:22-24

(We must put on the likeness of Christ.) – For you ought to put off the old man according to your way of living before) who is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind. And you should put on the new man, who according to God was created in righteousness and true holiness.

Would you like to pray and ask the Lord Jesus to cleanse your life from sin and restore you to fellowship again?
