The Gift

I don’t know about you, but I love to receive gifts(most people do).   But I also love to give gifts.  The great thing about giving and receiving gifts is that it can be done at any time.  It doesn’t have to be a special occasion like Christmas, or anniversaries, or birthdays.  ANYTIME is a good tie to receive or give a gift.

As I am writing this, I’m thinking if it so much fun to give and receive gifts, why is it that we have such a hard time sharing the most precious gift ever given to man, the gift of eternal life.  Now I know that we can’t give the gift of eternal life, but we can sure point someone that can and He is more than willing to give it anytime anyone asks(Romans 10:13).

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We receive a wage for the work we do.  If we didn’t, we probably wouldn’t go to work on Monday.

A gift is something that is given to us.  We don’t have to do anything to get it.  It is given by someone that, out of the goodness of their heart, wants to give it to us because they care for us.

What we receive from a sin is a wage.  We earn and deserve what we get when we sin because we have to do something to get it.  Although what we receive from sin is some kind of fleshly gratification, we also receive the consequences of it.  Which, the Bible says is death.  Not necessarily physical death, but always spiritual death, that eternal separation from God.  We earned it and we deserve it.

But God has provided a way out of the penalty of sin.  A way that we can have a relationship with Him and have eternal life instead of eternal death(separation from God).  God sent His son, Jesus, to offer Himself as a sacrifice for the penalty of our sin.  The Good News(the Gospel) is, He offers it to us freely.  All we have to do is repent(turn away from) of our sin and believe in Him.

Salvation is a God’s gift to us.  If we had to work for it, it would no longer be a gift, it would be wages.  Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

If you have never received that gift, then why not receive it today?  You will never receive a more valuable gift in your life.  It will change you and give you a peace that you can’t possibly imagine plus you will spend eternity in Heaven.

If you have received that Gift, then why not share with someone else how they can receive it.  Why is it we are so willing to spend hundreds of dollars of gifts for people when the gift that they could really use is free?
