The Right Medicine

God has given people an incredible gift to be able to create medicines that will either cure or help you get through almost any kind of ailment. It’s amazing how they can create a certain medicine, if taken according to a certain dosage, will take care of whatever is ailing you. Several years ago I was taking a cough syrup to help me with a terrible cough that comes with “valley fever”. The dosage on the label says to take 1 to 2 teaspoons every 6 hours. And it helped(a little) to control the coughs. But I hate taking it because it tastes terrible.

In order to make the medicine taste better, I decide to mix the medicine with water or soda. It does taste better and it is easier to take. But what have I done? I have diluted the medicine and it no longer contains the healing properties necessary to control my cough. It will no longer do what the label said it would do because of what I did to make it easier to take.

The Bible is the same way. It is a strong medicine that when followed according to it’s instructions will not only bring us to Salvation, but also help us get through this crazy life. But when we dilute It’s message, and take out the urgency of salvation, the reality of Hell, the way of Salvation, the inerrancy of Scripture, then we take away the healing properties of the Bible and we can’t receive the complete healing that It offers.

We all have this sickness called “sin”. The Bible says in Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

But there is a cure. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The cure is free. All we have to do is follow the instructions. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

What are the directions? 1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Romans 10:13 For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

When we dilute the Bible’s message for salvation, we take away all hope for a cure to the problem all men have, and that is “sin”. Taking medicine the correct way can help you. Taking it the wrong way can kill you.
