Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
I don’t know about you, waiting is a vary hard thing for me. I don’t like long lines in stores, I don’t like to be in long lines of stopped or slow traffic, I don’t like to wait when I want something to happen or when I’m worried about the outcome of something. I just plain don’t like to wait.
But that is not what God wants from us. You can find all kinds of Bible verses that talk about waiting or being patient.
There are 101 verses that talk about waiting far too many to list them all here
Here are a few verses that talk about being patient:
Ecclesiastes 7:8 Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.
Romans 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
Romans 12:12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
1Thessalonians 5:14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.
2Thessalonians 3:5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.
1Timothy 3:3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
2Timothy 2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
James 5:7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
James 5:8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
One of the things I’ve learned about God and studying His word is that when He talks a lot about a subject, you need to listen because it is something that He really wants to burn into our brains.
Being patient is hard, very hard when difficult times come our way. But the peace that comes from trusting Him and waiting on Him make the waiting worth the effort. I like what Isaiah says in chapter 40:31 – those that wait upon the LORD will have their strength renewed(I don’t know about you, but I need that strength). But he also says that we will mount up with wings of eagles. What do eagles do, they soar above the world. Can you imagine soaring above your problems?
One of the most precious promises in the Bible is found in Isaiah 41:10 – Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Waiting and being patient is not easy, but knowing that the God of the Universe, the Creator of everything is in control, makes waiting a little easier. It’s all about living by faith. Knowing that He will never leave us nor forsake us.
